At approximately 60,000 square kilometres in size, the Canadian province of Nova Scotia is somewhat smaller than Bavaria, yet it has a population of only 850,000. Its coastline stretches over 7,500 kilometres. The Atlantic Ocean is ever present and it is this coastal scenery which adds to Nova Scotia’s unique charm. Nova Scotia is much closer than you would think – just six hours non-stop from Europe to Halifax. Here in Nova Scotia (which is the Latin for “New Scotland”), you will find nature at its purest amidst a well-organised civilisation. This is a particularly attractive holiday location with many leisure activities to choose from: a haven for watersports enthusiasts, anglers, hunters and horseback riders. Remarkable golf courses and tennis courts also contribute to the endless list of things to do.

It is said that 200 years ago large amounts of gold were buried on the neighbouring Oak Island. Many books have been written on the supposed buried treasure. At the nearby Oak Island Resort and Spa, you can hire various sailing and motorboats. Fishing trips and other excursions can also be booked here. The magical little town of Chester is famous for its yacht club and beautiful golf courses as well as excellent restaurants, galleries and gift shops. Visit the picture-postcard lighthouse at Peggys Cove. Mahone Bay is the most photographed coastal town, with three churches and many small craft shops. Begin a whale-watching tour at the quaint historical town of Lunenburg. Only a 45-minute journey away you find yourself in the capital of Halifax, which boasts a long and lively harbour front, a popular pub and club scene, several shops and restaurants, galleries and hotels.
